The Necessity of belief

“‘Because you believed, it has happened.’ And the young servant was healed that same hour.’”. Matthew 8:13

I was reading my Bible a few minutes ago and I came across this passage. Although I’ve read it dozens of times before, today it leapt off the page at me. I guess it is because I have been struggling lately with taking God at His Word. Let me explain – it’s not that I don’t believe He can do what He has said, it’s just that I don’t understand how He can do it in my present circumstances.

Yet this passage reminds me that faith is more than mental assent, it is the absolute assurance that God can and will do whatever He has said that He will do. Even when it seems impossible. Even when it makes absolutely no sense.

So if you’re like me, and you are struggling today to take God at His Word. Remind yourself that the One who has spoken to you, is the same One who created the earth with just a word from His lips. He doesn’t understand the word ‘impossible’ for He has never (and He never will) encountered an obstacle or situation in which He couldn’t handle.

And if He can handle the entire universe in the palm of His hand, He can certainly handle whatever situation we might be facing in our lives today.

Join me in asking the Lord for a deeper and greater faith. All we need to muster up is faith the size of a mustard seed. And even if we have problems with that, He assures us that He can help us with that as well!

So repeat after me, “I will believe and NOT doubt. God can do whatever He wants to do. And what He has promised to me, He will deliver. I can rest assured that he will not let me down or disappoint me. For He is a great and all-powerful God.”
