How to tell if you’re an immature Christian?
In the first four chapters of 1 Corinthians Paul spends a great deal of time addressing the spiritual immaturity of the members of the church in Corinth. Before any of us can properly apply his teaching to our lives, we must first determine whether or not we are spiritually immature.
The best way to ascertain this knowledge is to ask a trusted Christian leader or small group leader in your church. However since I know most of us won’t do that, I’ve come up with some questions which might help us gain a clearer understanding of where we stand on the spiritual maturity scale.
-
Are your actions and thoughts still being controlled by the Spirit of this world?
-
Do the pleasures of sinful society still hold power over you? Are its ways still attractive in your eyes?
-
Is your relationship with Christ based on knowledge or on actual experience?
-
Is Christ’s love transforming you into a new and different person?
-
Do you continue to struggle to find freedom from your sinful past?
-
Can you point out specific things God has changed in your life?
-
Are you more interested in what people think about you, or in what God thinks about you?
-
Do you trust God with your money? Is that trust evidenced by faithful giving and tithing to your local church?
-
Are you growing daily in your walk with Christ?
-
Has your understanding of God’s word increased?
-
Is your appetite for spiritual things (prayer, bible study, fasting, evangelizing) increasing?
Now that you’ve answered the questions…why not ask a trusted friend what they think?
